Hans-Grassl-Award

Dr. E.h. Hans Grassl was awarded with an honorary doctorate at the TU Braunschweig in 1973 rewarding his extraordinary accomplishments in the development of structural engineering, particularly in the field of steel bridges.

His successors at GRASSL consulting, some of whom also studied in Braunschweig, aim to pass on their engineering knowledge gathered in more than 70 years of steel construction to students, encouraging the start of their career.

The Hans-Grassl-Award was therefore created, honouring the founder of the company, and was awarded in the Institute of Steel Construction at the TU Braunschweig in 2013 for the first time. Annually masters students in structural engineering, dedicated to structural steel, now have the opportunity to find an innovative solution for the problems they are confronted with.

The jury evaluating the submitted projects is composed of active as well as former employees of GRASSL together with the lecturers of the TU Braunschweig. The final evaluation accounts for the conceptual design, including the assessment of executability and overall preparation.

The prize money awarded to the winner determined by the jury is 2,500 Euro.
