Bypass Wassenberg (B221) and Bypass Hückelhoven-Ratheim and Millich (L117)

Ground-Breaking Ceremony for the new Construction

The construction of the city bypass of Wassenberg (B221) as well as the bypass of Hückelhoven-Ratheim and Millich (L117) commenced with the ground breaking ceremony on December 12th 2015.

The ceremony was joined by Parliamentary State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, Enak Ferlemann, Ministry of Construction, Housing Urban Development and Transport of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia's, Michael Groschek and Managing Director of the State Roadworks Department of North Rhine-Westphalia, Elfriede Sauerwein-Braksiek.

Altogether nine bridges along the B221 and four bridges along the L117 are part of the construction project with a total investment volume of 45 million Euro. The total length of both bypasses is approximately 10 km. With the completion of the project in 2020 traffic will be diverted around the cities of Ratheim, Millich and Wassenberg.

GRASSL engineers were responsible for the design of the overpass Weidbruchsweg and Myhlerfeld. The two frame bridges have a total length of approximately 22 m each.
