The first swing bridge of Hamburg was inaugurated on April 22nd 2016. The official name " Zitadellen-Bridge" was announced for the first time during the celebration. The rotation of the movable part allows vessels to pass through the navigable section of the passage. Seating facilities are mounted to the pivotal point which also contains the internal drive. The rotary drive as well the lifting cylinders are powered electrically. The design was the result of an idea competition in which the engineering office GRASSL in cooperation with Winking-Froh Architects were awarded with the first place. GRASSL engineers were responsible for the complete planning ranging from preliminary investigations to tendering including implementation engineering.
