Auerbach bypass: Cutting of the first sod

Construction starts for the last construction phase of the B533

On 11 September 2023, in lovely weather, the first sod for the Auerbach bypass on the B533 was cut at the location of the construction site facilities.

In their speeches, Stefanie Schäfer, head of division at the BMDV, and Christian Bernreiter, Bavarian State Minister for Housing, Construction and Transport, stressed the importance of this project for Auerbach and the Bavarian Forest region.

The B533 Federal highway is an important transport axis which connects the A3 motorway with the B85 and B12 Federal highways. The Auerbach bypass is the final construction phase of the B533. It will significantly reduce through traffic in the town of Auerbach and improve road safety and traffic quality.

The measure is estimated to cost around 51 million euros, with the main costs being for the 370 m long tunnel and the bridge structures.

On behalf of the Passau traffic authority, GRASSL engineers carried out the detailed and execution design as well as the design for tender of the bridge structures, which include the viaduct over the Hengersberger Ohe.
