On 7 June 2023, the event “Brücken drücken” (loading bridges) was held at the HafenCity University in Hamburg. Mixed teams of civil engineering and architecture students designed bridge models for given conditions such as span length, maximum self-weight and maximum building height.

The models were judged by an expert panel including research associate Maren Zywietz M.Sc., Professor Karsten Schlesier (structural design) and employee Dipl.-Ing. Thomas Benz with respect to design idea, structural concept and aesthetics. The models were then loaded to failure in a test stand and the load capacity was subsequently determined from the self weight and failure load.

The three best bridges were awarded prize money.
