Federal motorway A46 | construction of the Nuttlar viaduct

North Rhine-Westphalia's highest viaduct carrying traffic

The new section of the A46 motorway from Bestwig to Olsberg was opened in the presence of Enak Ferlemann, the Parliamentary Secretary of State for the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport, Hendrik Wüst, the transport minister for the State of North Rhine Westphalia and Elfriede Sauerwein-Braksiek, the director of the North Rhine-Westphalia State Road Construction Company. Consequently, since 18 November traffic has been travelling from the eastern part of the Ruhr district towards Sauerland across the highest motorway bridge in North Rhine-Westphalia. At its highest point, the Nuttlar Viaduct stands 115 m above the valley floor. The superstructure extending over the entire width of the motorway, with span lengths of 77 m, 2 × 95 m, 115 m, 2 × 97.5 m and 83 m comprises a single-cell steel–concrete box girder with external truss structure.

On behalf of the North Rhine-Westphalia State Road Construction Company, GRASSL engineers developed the structural design and construction drawings for the bridge.
