On 16 October 2023, the first sod was cut for the B1 cross-town link in Brandenburg an der Havel. In their speeches, Dr Ina Bartmann (Chairwoman of the Board of Landesbetrieb Straßenwesen Brandenburg), Guido Beermann (Minister for Infrastructure and State Planning of the state of Brandenburg), Frank Süßer (Head of Division at the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport) and Steffen Schneller (Mayor of the city of Brandenburg an der Havel) highlighted the speed with which the design had been carried out. The entire construction measure not only includes the replacement of the bridge over the DB AG railway tracks and the bridge over the Neujahrsgraben but also the construction of retaining structures alongside the road embankment and the conversion of about 1,200 m of road infrastructure, including the upgrade of pedestrian and cycle paths to current standards. The GRASSL Berlin office was responsible for the design of the two bridges and the retaining structures.
