Major progress on our construction site in Duisburg-Neuenkamp!

Insights into the work on the Neuenkamp Bridge over the Rhine River in Duisburg

Late last year, the first structure in the direction of Dortmund was opened to traffic. The demolition of the existing bridge is currently underway, and preliminary work for the construction of the second structure in the direction of Venlo is being carried out.

The last challenges?

We successfully completed the technical design for the demolition and the execution design for the launching and the connection area. The first stay cables, out of the twelve groups of cables consisting of nine wire strands each, have been cut.

Current insights?

The auxiliary stay cables will be installed successively after the first main cable, consisting of nine individual wire strands, has been removed. The measured stay cable forces and deformations of the bridge deck agree well with the analytical predictions.

These work steps are currently being repeated and the bridge deck and the auxiliary and main cables will be removed progressively until the entire river span has been demolished.

A massive thank you to the fantastic ARGE Rheinbrücke Duisburg-Neuenkamp, consisting of Hochtief Infrastructure GmbH and MCE GmbH, as well as to our INGE partner, LAP AG, our client, DEGES, and our committed GRASSL colleagues, Mihai-Dan Pop, Angelika Feil, Daniel Wingenfeld and Tamás Simon, who are working diligently on the design of the demolition and new construction!
