Oebisfelde bypass

Moving and floating of the superstructure

On 27 and 28 May 2020, the steel superstructure for structure 04A of the Oebisfelde bypass was successfully moved across the Mittelland Canal.

The bridge, which has a span length of 117 m, was raised to 6.3 m initially and placed on scaffold columns which were moved roughly 120 m to the shore by self-propelled modular transporters. Two pontoons were then used to float the superstructure 60 m longitudinally and 30 m laterally across the canal.

The weight of the superstructure including the formwork of the steel–concrete composite deck slab and scaffolding on the pontoons was about 1,250 metric tons.

GRASSL checked the execution design of the bridge and all construction and assembly states. We also monitored the auxiliary constructions required for assembly and the moving and floating processes on site and accompanied the construction works.
