Okavango River Bridge

Closing the gap

The last remaining segment of the steel–concrete composite superstructure of the Okavango River was put into place today, closing the gap between the two superstructure halves. The next few months will see the installation of the prefabricated elements with subsequent construction of the concrete slab. As soon as the top segments of the pylons will be in their position, the ‘elephant tusks’ will render this important connection over the Okavango River highly visible.

We would like to congratulate the clients, the construction companies and our planning partners in Botswana and South Africa for this amazing project.

GRASSL engineers were in charge for all work phases of the cable-stayed bridge, from the preliminary design to the structural checking.
