Bottleneck of the international north-south-connection
connecting people
The 3.8 km long Elbmarsch elevated highway (K20), constructed in the 1970s, was already designed with the future widening of the A7 motorway in mind. Over the decades, this vital north-south transport corridor — an integral part of both the national and European road networks, including the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN) — has increasingly become a bottleneck for traffic.
paving the way
GRASSL was commissioned to oversee the entire project — from preliminary design through detailed and execution planning, tendering, and finally construction supervision and site management — covering all service phases as defined by the German HOAI. The company supported the expansion of the structure from six to eight lanes through to successful completion. A total of 32 GRASSL employees from the fields of planning, structural rehabilitation, construction supervision, and structural inspection were involved in the project.
creating construction culture
By implementing the widening, this project contributes to sustainability in construction culture — while maintaining the understated appearance of what is, in fact, Germany’s longest bridge, spanning more than 110 axes.
