LET’S CELEBRATE! GRASSL PROJECTS ON THE WINNER’S PODIUM
At GRASSL, we celebrate every single completed construction project. Because our team always gives its very best. Well-thought-through concepts, innovative solutions, high-quality details and, last but not least, their careful implementation in the local context are the reasons that our construction projects regularly win awards. This also explains why structures that were built a long time ago are still standing and shining. Sustainable Baukultur at its best.
THREE CHEERS FOR THE YOUNG ENGINEERS! THE HANS GRASSL AWARD
Steel, the material which allows structures to grow magnificently and seemingly without effort into the skies, was a source of fascination for Hans Grassl: the Eiffel Tower, the Ponte Dom Luís I, the former Dombrücke (Cathedral Bridge) in Cologne. While working at Waagner-Biro, a renowned steel construction firm, Hans Grassl gained in-depth knowledge of steel and its properties and significantly added to the public knowledge in the area of steel bridge construction. The Technische Universität Braunschweig recognised this and awarded him an honorary doctorate for his work in this field in 1973.
To honour the memory of our company founder and to pass on some of our engineering knowledge of steel bridge construction, the Hans Grassl Award was created.
It was awarded for the first time in 2013, at the Institute for Steel Construction of the Technische Universität Braunschweig. Every year, civil engineering master’s students specialising in steel construction have the opportunity to apply their knowledge to solve a practical problem set by us. As part of their studies, they create their own designs for existing construction projects and gain valuable practical experience along the way. The jury consists of lecturers of the Technische Universität Braunschweig as well as current and previous GRASSL staff. They judge the submitted projects based on their design, feasibility and completeness.
