OUR DÜSSELDORF OFFICE

Rhineland calls – GRASSL in Düsseldorf

In 1952, Hans Grassl was asked to submit a special design for the flood plain bridge on the western bank of the Rhine River, the first cable-stayed bridge over this river in northern Düsseldorf: the Theodor Heuss Bridge. Subsequently, he was commissioned to also carry out the execution design. In order for GRASSL to be able to be on site, a Düsseldorf office was established in 1954. After Düsseldorf became the state capital in 1950, many infrastructure measures were carried out and Düsseldorf became a main focus of activity. In addition to participating in the creation of the Düsseldorf Rhine River bridge family with the design of the Oberkassler Bridge and the Flehe and Ilverich bridges, GRASSL also made a significant contribution to urban planning flagship projects in Düsseldorf, such as the lowering of the Rheinuferstrasse or the expansion of the metro network. The construction of the U81 still keeps the Düsseldorf office busy today. GRASSL is further participating in the high-profile bridge replacement projects such as those in Leverkusen, Duisburg-Neuenkamp or Rahmede.

In addition to offering traditional services, in the 1980s GRASSL implemented a structural asset management system for the city, which allows all bridges and detected defects to be listed and costed. GRASSL also developed an inspection trolley for checking the cables of the three stayed cable bridges in Düsseldorf.

The Düsseldorf office offers all services and carries out a variety of design and engineering services in the areas of construction, maintenance, supervision and checking of infrastructure, building and industrial structures. As a reliable partner, we support the state capital of Düsseldorf, Wuppertaler Stadtwerke GmbH and the various interregional traffic authorities, amongst others.
