OUR HAMBURG OFFICE

The beginning – GRASSL is founded in Hamburg

Until 1947, Hans Grassl was director at Rheinstahl-Eggers in Hamburg. Times were uncertain, which is why he decided to strike out on his own and offer his services as a consulting civil engineer in the Sievekingsallee in Hamburg. His first commissions were related to the reconstruction of the VW plant in Wolfsburg. First pay: a VW Beetle. He hired his first team members in the early 1950s. Before bridge construction became one of the areas of activity of the offices, the team worked on concrete ship and barracks halls. After 65 years near St. Michael’s Church, in 2020 we moved into our new offices in the Berliner Bogen office building near Hamburg Central Station.

In the past decades, the GRASSL Hamburg office has participated in important bridge projects such as the Kohlbrand Bridge, the Fehmarnsund Bridge, the conversion of the Norderelb Bridge (K6), the Levensau High Bridge, the Stör Bridge, the railway bridges over the Süderelbe River, the Binnenhafenbrücke Viaduct and the Rethe Bridge. Our Hamburg team has further worked on projects in the areas of flood protection, hydraulic construction and tunnel construction or on the ICE depot.

Hamburg as an important European transportation hub offers plenty of opportunities to participate in prominent projects, such as the widening of the A7 and A1 or the replacement of the railway bridge over the Süderelbe River.

Our Hamburg office offers the full range of services and carries out a variety of design and engineering services in the areas of construction, maintenance, supervision and checking of infrastructure, building and industrial structures. We make optimal use of the diverse know-how not only of our colleagues in Hamburg but also of the entire GRASSL network at the various offices. As a reliable partner, we support the state authorities, Autobahn GmbH, DEGES, the Hamburg Port Authority, Hamburger Hochbahn AG and various other clients.
