Our Munich office

Let’s go south – GRASSL in Munich

The development of structurally weak regions in the south-east of the federal republic led to an increase in contracts in southern Germany. The Munich office was established when Gerhard Grassl decided to join his father’s firm. lnitially, the economic success was based on the structural checking of many large bridges over the Main, Danube, Inn and Mangfall rivers. Since the 1980s, the Munich office has been providing the full range of services from design, checking and supervision to maintenance. Today, the Munich office offers engineering services for bridges, road, rail and waterway tunnels and for building and industrial structures.

The enthusiasm for interdisciplinary collaborations in design competitions has resulted in awards and the construction of several bridges, such as the bridge over the Isar River at Grünwald, the Karl Branner Bridge over the Fulda River in Kassel, the Nibelungen Bridge over the Danube River in Regensburg and the truss arch bridge at the beginning of the widened section of the A3 at the Fürth−Erlangen motorway junction.

The Munich office currently provides general planning services for the extension of the Munich metro lines U5 in the west and east and for the U6 in the west. We are further supporting the maintenance of the Munich Baukultur by carrying out services such as structural inspections on the tent-style roof of the Olympic Park and the management of the conversion and maintenance of the Munich Altstadtring Tunnel, the latter thanks to an innovative structural health monitoring approach.

We make optimal use of the diverse know-how not only of our colleagues in Munich but also of the entire GRASSL network at the various offices. As a reliable partner, we support the regional authorities in southern Germany, the state construction authority, Autobahn GmbH, DEGES, construction firms and various private clients.
