Hohenzollern Bridge in Cologne

A new Rhine River crossing

The Cologne cityscape is dominated by the cathedral, with the historic Hohenzollern Bridge in the foreground.

The proposal for an arch bridge that GRASSL submitted together with the architecture firm PPL won over the City of Cologne in the competitive negotiated procedure.

Our design emphasises the independence of the modern structure without competing with the existing railway bridges. The new pedestrian and cyclist bridge consciously enters into an aesthetic and structural dialogue with the existing bridge. The bridge design balances the old and the new, blends naturally into its environment and honours its neighbour by adapting structural and visual elements and interpreting them in a modern context.

We are very pleased to be able to carry out this design for the City of Cologne.
